It's a shame that this project has become about politics and not about prosperity.

A CBS 60 Minutes, or maybe NBC report showed the source to be low grade really crappy dirt that happens to contain some hydrocarbons -> 'tar sands' really ?? Ha ! What a joke.
So why is does the TEA/GOP glibly waste its time on this stuff ??
Does it not have way more important issues of importance that could actually create jobs and improve USA security ?

The pipeline is dangerous. We need alternatives, not oil.

More utterly insipid partisan grandstanding instead of compromising for the good of the American People. Congress should take a good look in the mirror, realize what a complete and utter disgrace they are to our nation and to the memory of our founding fathers, and resign en masse.....

I wonder how much TransCanada has paid the Obstructionist Teapublicans to go after the Keystone XL sour oil sands pipeline?

Last time Obama released oil from the reserves, there was no impact on prices.

Is it really possible for this do-nothing Congress to actually approve and implement anything? I strongly doubt it, no matter how beneficial an approval might actually be. And if so, would the president sign it? Dream on, folks.

"Let's not forget that in 2008 Obama campaigned on raising energy prices -- especially the price of fossil fuels. So this is not unexpected. "
Yep he did say this. Everyone ignored it. That is until they had to pay for it.
I really wonder how much a Senator gains for these greedy proceedings.

If we are EXPORTING more oil than ANY OTHER COUNTRY in the world, why do we need Canadien oil?

Releasing oil from the reserves is more symbolic than substantive. It would have little effect long term. Our energy policy is what must be resolved.

I believe it's Obama who wants to announce a Keystone decision after the election. Republicans just want it built.

Is a shame Obama is so stupid as to have to have his hands tied to prevent him from picking his sores.
If we don't need XL oil it stands to reason we don't need to tap our oil reserves.

I'm split on this one. I believe strongly that we need to approve the Keystone XL pipeline. At the same time, I don't like these political manipulation games. Ultimately what we really need here is a president who will take the obvious right step and just approve the piepline without making it a political football.
I also see the electioneering that's takig place here. With gas prices forecast by many to reach $5 this summer, right before the election, I expect Obama to use every trick available to him, especially releasing oil from the strategic reserve, to manipulate public sentiment toward him before the election.
