No - not at all. They are not practical for getting where I need to be when I need to be there.

I live ouside of town 35km. Fuel costs affected my living and had to discontinue a lot of activities in town, which also hurt other businesses I supported. I had to car pool (no public transportation available)and get neighbours to run errands for me and vice versa. Now prices are down I still follow these habits. I use half as much gas as I did a year ago.

No, I am driving less than before... public transportation is not very useful for me. I just cut back... easiest to do!

I bought a used SUV in Aug. and I only drive it for errands in the evening. During the day, I use mass transit since my program pays for it. If I had to pay for fuel to travel back and forth to my program, I would not be able to afford it. Before I purchased my vehicle, I relied solely on mass transit and my children's ability to ride their bikes to run errands. It was efficient but time consuming. I pray that gas prices drop soon for all of us on fixed incomes, or better yet, for EVERYONE!

Tried a Vanpool. Ever put 14 grown men in a 15 passenger van? At least 2 people are going to be sitting with a only one butt cheek on the seat. I lasted a month, no access to a seat belt, way too crowded, too many immature riders, residual smell of smoke on several riders, had to get up 30 mins earlier than normal, back seat rode so bad it made my back hurt worse than normal, bad driving by some drivers, etc. Only cost me $44/month for the vanpool vs. about $140/month in gas for my car at today's prices, it just wasn't worth it to me.

Public transportation is not the answer in every case.
For me, the nearest taxi is 30 kilometres away and the nearest bus route ends 100 k. away.

i do carpool slightly more now, but i also walk more.
in addition, my car has been down for over 2½ months total. ə

I work on ATMs and have to have my tools. Can't carry those on a bus! I have gone out on my motorcycle, though. The side bags and trunk on the Goldwing hold enough tools for me to do what needs to be done.

for the last five years I have worked 40 miles away and driven on the average 100 miles/day. mass transit won't help me; rising fuel costs are hurting!

We are better off then most. We are retired and do not need to car pool or take mass transit. On the other hand we are on a fixed income and
the higher prices of gas are really hurting.

Have you ever tried to take public transportation to do service calls and carry 200 pounds of tools?
