The more important question is: Are we willing to pay the higher prices applying new drilling techniques. It is fact of life that domestic petroleum has been the most costly.

Not any or everywhere. The states and provinces should decide on offshore sites. And no new drilling in Alaska, or at least not until all options have been used up in lower continental U.S.

YESSS! (with reasonble restrictions)
For those of you who say NO, do you realize that we're sending BILLIONS of OUR dollars to other countries to purchase oil that comes out of the ocean's floor? It makes no sense to restrict us from drilling offshore but instead buy from other countries who drill offshore.
We have excellent resources available right here at home. We could keep the money AND the jobs right here instead of sending it to our adversaries.
What is it so difficult to understand this?
We should conserve, develope alternative sources of fuels and in the meantime ....Drill Baby Drill!

Should I just log in here every day and post "Yes"?
I think I should qualify my answer - so I will say that we should first try to limit our consumption to what we can ourselves produce. (eliminating our dependence on other countries - especially the ones who hate us!) I know that it will take some effort just to get to that point. In order to free ourselves from dependence (REALISTICALLY) before then, we need more of our own oil. We are advanced enough to explore our own resources for oil with a minimum of risk to the environment (which seems to be what everyone is so worked up about.) Why not tap into our own resources?
So - Yes. But with effort towards alternatives and "green".

It should be decided by the individual states which have deposits on land or off shore.

so let me get this straight all you can say is no if that is your only opinion then you should just shut up unless you have reasons why you feel the way you do. So if you do then tell the all the people in this discussion because you are very intolerable and seems like you dont know what your even saying no to!

To All Who Say No: why not? All you say is no but no reasons why? I mean if you dont know why we shouldnt then why no? And if your answer is we need get off of it then think about it how are we gonna get a new energy resource if we dont have one for the time we are looking for one? Plus if we drill on our soil we can pay off national debt and it might even make the economy boom and if we dont try then how do we know? and while we are drilling we can be finding a new way for energy.
